While it'd please me to abandon any fan comic aspirations, I can't really go through with it because I care entirely too much. I know I seem to be shitting on Dragon Ball and the fandom as much as possible, but really it's just me giving my opinions on recent developments within the Dragon Ball community.

If I come across as angry and hateful towards the series, it's not my full intention. I do want to portray anger obviously since I've loved the series ever since I was a child and the recent developments regarding Goku's mom and Bardock being the original Super Saiyan just reeked of trying to make Dragon Ball Z more than what it was. I know I've been guilty of this same thing when I originally wrote Genesis as a teenager.

I think that was one of my main problems with the fan comic, Dragon Ball Genesis as a whole: it was me trying to hang on to something that I swore I'd never abandon. I tried to revamp it, I tried to turn it into a fanfiction, I tried burying it, and I tried moving on. While I have technically moved on from Genesis, I haven't completely abandoned it. The problem that I face is that nothing in Genesis would connect properly with the original series and that was a huge deal for me to be honest.

I now realize that the major issue was that I was trying to write it in similar fashion to how the original manga was written. I was trying so hard to be like Akira Toriyama and expand on the series. That was a huge mistake on my part because at the same time I was trying to be in Toriyama's shadow, I was also trying to break out on my own with my own style and storylines. I had been called out so many times for not being original and a lot of the people I met weren't fans of Dragon Ball Z and preferred seeing me do original material.

It's a problem I still face to this day, but it's to a lesser extreme. I have Random Emo Cookies to focus on as well as NSFW commission work. My free time is mostly spent drawing my own characters and comics.

Having said that, I still have an ace up my sleeve. I had mentioned late last year that I had been thinking about doing a fan comic related to Dragon Ball Z and instead of trying to do my original story, I'd do my take on the series. In other words, I'd rewrite Dragon Ball Z and add some of my spin on it.

Some people that I proposed this idea to shot it down immediately as they wanted me to continue Genesis. Well, fuck it at this point. There's no reason to continue Genesis and there's more reason to put my own spin on Dragon Ball Z. Some people might be shaking their heads and think that it's just going to be the same story over again with new art and whatnot. That isn't the case. I've changed A LOT of things around from the original story. It's not meant to say that the original series is bad or that my version will be better; it's meant to be a sort of tribute to the original series as well as a what could have been type deal.

There are catches though. Remember how I was updating Genesis with my original art, but it was sketchy? Well, expect that with this new series. I will not be diving into this fan comic with the intention to create a grand spectacle, but with the intention to have fun, pay tribute to a show and manga I grew up on, and to share my thoughts on the series in the form of this story. Some characters will be removed and others will be added. I won't go too far into detail since I don't feel like it, but I'll leave you with this. See you soon.
